Run in Safe Mode

Each time I start COD2 I'm prompted "Run in Safe Mode?". Regardless of my response, the game crashes. I've tried restarting Windows and the game. Same result. Looked on Google for fix with no intelligible result. Suggestions?

I recently installed a new earphone with an optional mic. I wasn't using a mic so, i didn't install it. It turns out that COD objects to an earphone without a mic. Hence, the improper exit causing the "Run in Safe Mode" message. I installed the mic and now all is well. Who would have guessed?
