Connecting to servers from PC DVD

Normally I play through Steam but I recently purchased the COD2 disc from Amazon for my PC in the hopes that I can play on the 1.0 servers. What I have found however is that I cannot connect to ANY server at all. When I open console and type /connect and the i.p. address, I get the "Server is a different version" error no matter who I am trying to connect to. Any suggestions?

Bob, it means that the server you are trying to connect to is either a 1.2 or a 1.3 server. make sure that you enter the correct number for the port.

if you don't know the port number, open up your in game browser. KinG servers usually come up at or near the top if you filter for player numbers. you could also use one of the other tracking sites to check for the correct IP.

another thing: check that your disk doesn't install a higher version by default. mine doesn't but I bought the game before other versions came out.

you need to know the number of the port, but if you do know it, you put a ":" after the IP and, then type in the port number:

i'll give a fictional example:

216.322.48.55:27960 (27960 is the port number).

if you do not know the port number, you need to find out what it is. however, you should be able to bring up the KinG servers in the in-game browser, which makes it so that you don't have to bother with typing in the IP.

I cant sort because when i bring up servers, none show up. When connecting via IP, it says wrong version. I am not good with computers so I cant use patch switcher, im not smart enough to figure it out.

follow this link. you will find some IPs to try out. some are 1.3 and some are 1.0. I highly doubt that you would be running 1.2. try some of these and see if any work. if none of them work, you have an issue which I can probably not help you with.

https://www.gametracker.com/search/cod2/

you can find most of the KinG servers there as well.

Now there is a COD2 re-version, and the online model is more abundant, you can try to play it.
